winterreader40 's review for:
The Stationery Shop
by Marjan Kamali
Roya is a dreamy idealistic teenager who falls for the young idealistic Bahman who she meets in Mr. Fakhri's stationary shop, as their relationship progresses and changes happen in their country, Roya finds that she cannot win over Bahman's mother. The day a riot erupts in the town square their lives are changed forever. Told in 2 time lines.
The writing is very emotional, I found the same with Kamali's Lion women of Tehran. It's a bit of a predictable plot line but I still wound up teary eyed at a few points, I think I preferred Lion women slightly more loved both stories.
