What I liked:
- The audio narration was very good. Especially Audrey's and Providence's voice actors were superb and very fitting
- I really liked Audrey, Mike and Sedge as characters. I guess for some people there's too much swearing, but I like how brash Audrey is and the way she interacts with Mike.
- The author created a great atmosphere - the sleepy island and the danger on the ship are very tangible
What I didn't like that much:
- While Providence's chapters are very atmospheric, I felt myself get bored with them. They felt drawn out to me, especially compared with Audrey's chapters.
- We have three different timelines, and there are what I guess are flashbacks within the chapters. I found that a bit confusing sometimes - maybe because I was listening to the audio version and didn't have a visual cue - because it wasn't always clear to me if the narration was still in the past within the past, or if the character has 'snapped back' towards what was happening in their present. These flashbacks were sometimes too long for my taste.
- The ending felt super rushed and in the end, I don't think there was that big of a mystery? The thing we hear at the beginning - I was expecting to have more of a murder mystery
but that turned out to be a total smokescreen? The thing gets resolved without much fanfare, at least I was totally underwhelmed - I was also a bit disappointed at how the Providence timeline connected to the present/to the other women.
