I’ve never craved a sequel as much I did after legendborn. And I’m comforted after reading bloodmarked the next book in the cycle comes out next week. I loved everything about it. The way I giggled and kicked me feet, the way anxiety filled me, the way I fear, and the uncertainty it left me with. Tracy Deonn continues to amaze me with her incredible ability to construct a world so real I see it and feel it. Bree continues to be a badass. Strong yet emotional and raw. Typically love triangles send me over the edge. But in this case Bree, Sel, and Nick make the most sense of any love triangle I’ve ever had the opportunity of reading about. Never have I been torn on who I want for her more. As both seem to be forbidden. I can’t wait to see where she ends up next book. The friendships in this book also feel so genuine. Having a friend like Bree is hard, but they all genuinely Alice, Will, and Mariah actually put up with too much or Bree’s shit, but it is the truth about loving someone. When you genuinely love someone how you put up with so much. Lastly, the connection to black culture sends chills through me. Probably the part of the story I connect with the most. And for that I am forever grateful to feel seen, like Bree, I am not often seen nor understood in the world around me.The root crafters see and accept Bree in a way only other black people can. Samira’s mention that black people don’t need Oaths protect each other sent chills through my body. There was no truer statement. Patricia, Mariah, Lucille, and Hazel were the aunties and cousins Bree never got to experience and their love and support shows. Also the Volition and the connection to the ancestors of the last were the strongest part of this book.
