A really good follow up to the first PJO entry! Unfortunately, it still suffers from all the same problems of the first book, glorifying America to the point of nausea. However, a lot of the problems are overshadowed by the fact that one, it's a lil kids book and two, if we ignore Rick he will go away, and we can start to interpret things our own way. I joke - mostly - as i feel it's a strong follow-up, only wishing characters like Tyson and Clarisse were more involved, as they make the book better in a lot of ways. I enjoy how we see Percy completely in his element (the goddamn ocean) but i do wish we had more exploration of his powers, he's the son of one of the most powerful sea deities and there was hardly any crumbs of that. For example, the siren scene makes me wonder would Percy be able to resist? Both creatures of the sea almost siblings, surely Percy too would have some similar powers, the ocean's own charmspeak?
