I LOVE noir mystery detective stories set in  the past. This book didn't disappoint me on any point for which I read this genre. One reason I chose this author is because I have scant experience reading African American authors and I am making a conscious effort to remedy this. I had to slow down a bit due to my inexperience in  reading the vernacular dialect of the dialogue but, found it fun to look up terms and various regional aspects. Really enjoyed that! Terrific writer, looking forward to reading his next.
