I had great expectations for this book based on how much I loved Shadow of the Wind…. But I was a little disappointed. The writing style has the same moody, dark aesthetic, with a lot of romanticism and fairytale vibes. There were quiet a few intriguing discussions about religion and human nature - but ultimately the plot was confusing and unclear to the very end. Perhaps I have missed something I was supposed to pick up on? But there are several plot points that remain a big question mark, which is ultimately unsatisfying. I’ll keep reading everything this author writes but this wasn’t his best.
