At the Mountains of Madness
by H.P. Lovecraft
Reads like a tight little short story that someone inserted 50 pages of tedious world building into in order to lengthen it into a book.
The central concept is interesting and even scary, but marred by lengthy explanations of the way that long dead elder beings like to furnish their houses, and somewhat self-congratulatory references to other Lovecraft creations like Cthulhu, which the reader is presumed to already be familiar with.
Disappointed to have to say I’m glad to be done with it.
