Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

2.5

I’ve never read a Rainbow Rowell novel but without looking at the date of publication I can pinpoint the exact era Carry On was released based solely on the rate of Doctor Who references.

I understand Joanne Rowling is in the doghouse for, well, everything (and rightfully so), but this book is somehow a meaner Harry Potter with less charm and more biphobia, somehow. Maybe this just wasn’t the right Rowell novel for me, seeing as she’s evidently a very big name in young adult fiction, but this book makes me hesitate to try again.
