The Duke and I by Julia Quinn
2.0
lighthearted fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: N/A
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

i had watched the series before reading the book so i was expecting a bit of an enemies to lovers but i was pleasantly surprised that the book didnt follow the same trope. instead of being unnecessarily rude and curt with each other the duke and daphne had fun rapport from the beginning. it really all fell apart for me when daphne took advantage of the duke and daphne didnt really learn from her mistake and still played the victim.
what was most frustrating was that the duke's main reason for separating from daphne after was because he was embarrassed of his stammering. he was angry with her about her taking advantage of him but that anger seemed to dissipate without much reconciliation.
however i did think the motivation behind their reconciliation had more substance than in the show, and while i think daphne got let off a little easy, i like that they developed the duke's character a bit more.
