It's been said before, but I have so much respect for old-timey women for not murdering every man that spoke to them. The religious bigotry and willful sexist ignorance was pretty accurately written for the "villains" in this novel. So frustrating. And though it didn't happen as often as I wanted, so gratifying when the women in the novel called them out.

As historical fiction, it felt well researched, whether about the traveling library, the mining operation or just how people were.

I enjoyed the quotes that started each chapter.

One soft complaint is how tidily and pleasantly wrapped up everything was. Happy endings are great, but it was almost too perfect. Though, I suppose our heroines had suffered enough throughout the book to warrant it.
