Do you guys remember the Book of Virtues show? Maybe it was a Christian kid thing, but they basically showed cartoon versions of favorite stories. That's how I first heard the Gift of the Magi, Androcles and the Lion, all that good stuff.
That's kind of how I pictured this story. It's almost a cartoon version of a historical short story. A little more artistic than a kid's cartoon, but definitely truncated and simplified. I actually really enjoyed it. An interesting little short story about a lady warrior recounting how her village fought off the Roman empire with ingenuity and creativity, after violence didn't work. Great story.
