Демон шосе by Derek Landy, Derek Landy
4.0

I have to say that this book has left me totally devastated. I expected an exciting read, but I got surprised by this novel's intensity, brutality, underlined by the somewhat Stephen-Kingish writing style, and most importantly, meaning, and I would like to share my interpretation.
*a bit of spoilers coming, though not really important*
Derek Landy writes about a hidden world, full of terrifying creatures, but this world is not really far from our reality, if one looks closely. We are surrounded by vampires that suck our blood and enslave us, cunning demons that offer us wealth and power, but only trick us for their own benefit, and merciless murderers, hiding behind an innocent child's mask. This grotesque metaphor shows a really accurate picture of all the evil that hides in our lives.
Overall all of the characters are masterfully built up, even though it took me a while to understand every aspect of them. And in my opinion, Milo and Imelda are the meaningfully most important characters : both have tasted evil and power, but their consequences have opened their eyes for what is wrong and right and they managed to resist the temptation of might and immortality.
So in conclusion, despite being familiar with some of Derek Landy's other works, which are also some of my favourite books, this one was unexpectedly gripping, captivating and utterly stunning and I could not rate it lower.
