Happy Place by Emily Henry

5.0

I worship the ground Emily Henry walks on and it's as simple as that. She weaves such a dynamic, captivating, and emotional web of events and characters that is as heartbreaking as it is heartwarming. I highlighted more in this book than I ever have before. Harriet's inner monologue was as if Emily was inside my head and published my thoughts. There are so many types of love and relationships chronicled throughout the story, and I really enjoyed that we got glimpses of the past as well as the present. Even though the settings were changing, I never felt disconnected from the plot or the characters. If anything, the back and forth buried me even deeper in the emotions of the story. Details were withheld and revealed just as they should have been. Knowing something happened and seeing the aftermath, then going back to see the whole of what happened made it all the more impactful. I never felt like I was being teased with something and knew that the reveal would be worth it. I loved Harriet and Wyn so much, even though I sometimes wanted to shake some sense into them. However, the way they (Harriet especially) slowly realized why they felt the way they did and figured out what they needed to do felt so natural. I was worried that the story was going to wrap up too quickly, but I think it was tied up just right. Like with other Emily Henry books, the romance was a focus but not the only focus. We had some lightly spicy moments but a lot of the love story was tightly woven through all the little moments and details from beginning to end. Emily Henry has such a way of making you absolutely pine for fictional people and wish you could conjure them into physical existence. This book was like a punch in the gut, a warm hug, and a kiss on the head (iykyk) at the same time, and I look forward to rereading it over and over. Chef's kiss.
