Lealdades by Delphine de Vigan, Delphine de Vigan

To be honest, i never heard of this book until someone personally recommended it to me. They warned me it was pretty depressing.

And they were spot on.

This book is about the complexities of family and friendship bonds and the lies we tell to protect each other and ourselves.
It is a warning against indifference, and carelessness towards children.

It’s a short novel about two adolescent boys from two different families, each with their problems, and the ways they are trying to cope.

And about how difficult it can be to help each other, when loyalty means keeping silent about problems which can become life-threatening.

A short novel, perhaps the more hard-hitting for being so concise and to the point, so intense and beautifully written.
