The blurb outlines this book as a story about a girl called Winnie who must complete 3 trails to become a hunter. That is exactly what happens, nothing more, nothing less. Several plot points are established- love interests, betrayal, new monsters - and none are developed or rectified. Personally, I am disappointed in the lacking plot and character development. I felt it was repetitive and absent of any world building so I struggled to be engaged despite the atmosphere: witches, monsters, myths - what more could I want? Sadly, a lot. If you’re a fan of easy, quick fantasy reads I recommend this YA book. If you’re looking for something more substantial, look elsewhere.
I will say the cover is beautiful, and there is much enjoyment to be had in this series. Just not for me.
