Ruthless Creatures by J.T. Geissinger
5.0
5 blown-away stars.
This is my first book of Geissinger's (I think?) and I was blown away. I actually am not a big mafia romance person, so going into this rec from a friend I wasn't expecting much. What did I get? A book I seriously LOVED. Geissinger's writing is incredible and I was sucked in after only a few chapters. I definitely lost a lot of sleep with this one and have no regrets!
Natalie has had it rough. Abandoned by all who supposedly love her, minus her best friend Sloane, she's still mourning her missing fiance who disappeared the night before her wedding. She has gone through the motions of life until she meets a dark and mysterious stranger who sparks feelings in her body that she hasn't felt in a long time.
Kage has gone through life living a certain way after swearing a vow, and has no time for women. One look at Natalie, and that changes... but he isn't pleased about it. Women are distractions that in his life of work could get him killed.
These two fight their instant attraction for as long as they can until they give in and wow, is it hot when they do. Their connection is steamy and sizzling, yet romantic and tender at the same time. Is there anything hotter than a big bad alpha being vulnerable with the woman he loves?
I loved how much I could tell Kage felt for Natalie. It may have been instant attraction, then obsession, but she then became his whole world and I never felt any differently. Natalie loved Kage as well, and that's obvious by how much insanity she was willing to look past, and I just adored these two together.
Also, Sloane was hilarious. Everyone needs a friend like Sloane, and if you don't have one, be that friend.
The epilogue had me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book, but I would've liked more of a glimpse into Kage/Nat's HEA. Hopefully Sloane's book gives us some of that!
As always, YMMV, but I recommend this one!
