Asimov's Science Fiction, January/February 2018 by Sheila Williams

4.0

I quite enjoyed this issue, though it seemed a little less focused with its themes and story selection than the previous one. It includes some space opera, some military scifi, some works speculating on 20-minutes-into-the future technologies, and a contemporary Lovecraft novella. Despite this breadth I found the quality of stories quite balanced, with a few I really enjoyed.

Highlight pieces for me were:
“The Rescue of the Renegat” by Kristine Kathryn Rusch
"Sea of Dreams" by Cixin Liu (translated by John Chu)
“Mother Tongues” by S. Qiouyi Lu

I am reviewing each of the stories in this issue individually for SFF Reviews. They are available or forthcoming here: (https://sffreviews.com/tag/kiera-lesley/)
