The Power by Naomi Alderman

3.0

It’s taking me a while to process how I felt about this book. It’s no spoiler to say it’s a dystopian (when the dust jacket calls it a cross between The Handmaid’s Tale & The Hunger Games, you know what you’re getting into). It’s a compelling read and the characters are interesting and, in many cases, quite sympathetic. But I think the overall absence of hopefulness in its portrayal of humanity is what’s left me feeling like this is an objectively good novel that I’d only recommend to others with reservations.
