Unusual Chickens for the Exceptional Poultry Farmer by Kelly Jones

5.0

First - I don't normally read ebooks. Reading something on a screen doesn't always hold my attention like an actual book, so I tend to stay away from them. I decided to try something different, however, and found this book.

Young adult books can be fun reads and this one was no exception. Young Sophie and her family inherit her great-uncle's farm and the chickens that came with it. City folk on a farm? Yeah, this seemed predictable. Thankfully, I was mistaken.

This book was funny enough to make me bust out laughing (so loud that I scared the dog AND my husband) and there were even parts that had me going, "Nooo! That can't happen!" For such a short book, it had a lot going on and was never boring. The pictures were fun to look at and gave you a blip of the story, which was cool since the pictures were fairly simple. There was even a recipe in the book!

I had a hard time deciding which reading challenge category to put this in. It falls into an epistolary novel, a novel with a recipe in it, a book with an animal in it, and of course, ebook. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who loves YA fiction or any of the above categories.

This was a silly, light read and just what I needed after a long day.
