Ba Da Ba Ba Baaa....

I’m going to just jump right in. This series deals with that sort of instant, instinctual...on a deeper level kind of connection between the two main characters. Now I’ve had discussions about the whole “imprinting” (using that phrase for lack of a better one) situation in some werewolf stories and they weren’t very good or encouraging discussions. I can’t remember word for word what was said, but I do remember feeling super apprehensive when I realized this series featured “imprinting” just because of what I’d heard about it prior. But I have to say…. In THIS particular series, not that I have any others to compare it to. I like it! Yea, it’s weird being forced to be with someone because their biology says so and there’s this strange pull that toward them that wont go away... But it’s also weird to for a grown man to turn into a wolf, so what are we really fussing about here?

Anyway what I’m trying to say is that I like what Rule and Lily’s predicament is adding to their dynamic and to the overall story arc. I like reading about them getting to know one another even though they’ve already been the most intimate you can be with a person. I like that they’re still figuring one another out and seeing if even really they LIKE each other as people. It’s interesting and of course entertaining to read. Lily is still kind of fighting for her autonomy and Rule just wants her to accept that ‘it is what it is’ and there is no use in fighting it.

Besides all that, Mortal Danger was a nice sequel in the Lupi series. It picked off right where Tempting Danger left off which I love. Who likes missing important parts of the lives of characters they’ve fallen in love with? No one, that’s who. The staff is still missing and Mr. Holy and Insane, Harlowe is the number one culprit for having taken it. And when dead bodies start showing up and demons try to posses Lily, things of course get complicated…

The stories Eileen has told in these two books so far are different and unique for me. Not saying that it’s hard for me to find something in this genre that is unique considering I’ve only read two other Urban Fantasy series. But its more with this series so far.  There are werewolves, Wiccan, Sorcerers, Gods and Goddesses, trolls, demons, Dixies and of course regular ole human folk. You would think that with EVERYTHING else going on, all of these different creatures with their powers, Gifts, problems and drama, would be too much for one story but it all comes together so nicely and makes sense. Everything fits.

There was a small little part where things got to be a bit confusing, but even that was cleared up and woven together into a nice little quilt of good story telling. I’m just enjoying these books! Can you tell?

Anyway, Rule and Lily are my current favorite ship. The next TWO books aren’t about them which kind of makes me want to cry and eat frozen yogurt from the spout. But I’m going to build me a nice little bridge and get over it. The next book “Blood Lines” is about Cullen and a new character, Cynna who I haven’t quite figured out yet but I do like. I can tell by the way Eileen writes and the way these first two books have played out, that nothing is done for nothing. So if the next two books are about Cynna and Cullen, then there is a definite reason for it being so and they’re important. I look forward to getting back to Rule and Lily, but I’m intrigued by what trouble Cynna and Cullen will get into in the meantime.
