I love this book deeply. Scarlett is one of my favourite characters and a great example of a character that is unlikeable yet compelling. I don't want to spoil anything in the book but it's always a shockingly easy read and I have learned a lot about the Civil War from it. It's also an interesting time capsule about the attitudes of the white people in power in the South at the time towards every other class of white person as well as the Africans they enslaved. A sweeping and engaging narrative with fully realised characters and a fantastic interpretation of nostalgia for a time that is swept away, or Gone with the Wind.
