Simone Visits the Museum by Kelsi Bracmort

3.5 stars.

Simone Visits the Museum by Dr. Kelsi Bracmort and illustrated by Takeia Marie is a really sweet, charming little picture book that has a lot going for it. The illustrations are incredibly cute, and the character design was fabulous all the way through. I really liked the emphasis on both responsibility and on exploring your own community. It was great to see a picture book represent the ways you can experience the world around you, and I imagine that kids in DC would be especially charmed to see this representation of their community. I appreciate that Simone's mother never speaks down to her and treats her like the smart little girl she is, but I did feel like some of the language is a bit stilted for regular conversation and narration. As much as I loved getting to see Simone's day, I wish more time had been spent at the titular museum.

Overall, this is a cute little book and is worth the read for anyone who enjoys picture books.
