The Golden Goblet by Eloise Jarvis McGraw

5.0

This book is one of my favorites from childhood. The Golden Goblet follows the story of Ranofer, a young boy who wants nothing more than to be the finest goldsmith in all of Egypt. After the death of his father he is sent to live with his step-brother Gebu (who IS the WORST). From there the plot winds through the mythology of ancient Egypt, following Ranofer as he encounters the Nile, ancient tombs, khefts, and beautiful golden goblets.

I’ve always been a sucker for books about Egypt, but this one about a boy who decides to remake his own life before the Gods is one of my favorites — and it never fails to put me all up in my feelings by the end. Cheers to Ran & his Golden Goblet, and the parts of my heart that will always be walking beside the Nile and watching the sun set.
