Circe by Madeline Miller

4.0

I REALLY liked this book... but would be hesitant to recommend it because, well, it is SO pagan. Of course I should have expected that- it is a retelling of Greek mythology- but there are maybe two paragraphs that talk about Pasiphea's committing beastiality (and the subsequent birth of the minotaur). These two instances are enough to keep this book on my shelf and out of my loaning pile, because of my faith and convictions.

Stylistically, this was a masterpiece. There was nothing tired about Miller's prose. It was like a beautiful song, and the way she ended Circe's story was incredibly satisfying.
