Fairy Tale by Stephen King

3.0

This book started out with the potential of becoming one of my favourite books of all time in the first 200 pages or so, but the further the story went on the weaker it got. The main character went from being sweet to insufferable and arrogant and the worldbuilding and plotline were all over the place. What bothered me most was the misogyny that appeared as soon as the female characters entered the plot. Why do you need to dedicate so many words to describing the boobs of a female giant when there’s no reason to? Why was the main character convinced he and the princess were going to end up together while she literally gave him zero signs she was interested? Not to mention the whole ‘do you understand MY RIGHT to command you, princess?’ and the ‘Eris pity fuck’ that randomly got thrown in at the end because imagine just being friends with a woman without her wanting to have sex with you (even though there was never any sexual tension throughout the entire book). It unfortunately ruined the book for me, which is a shame because I really really adored the beginning.
