Lawyers Gone Bad by Vincent L. Scarsella

4.0

I received a copy of this book from a goodreads giveaway and it's definitely one I have already recommended to all of my friends. It is very well written and easy to read (I have a learning disability that impacts reading so this was awesome) and the story pulls you in.
Dean Alessi is trying to be the good guy, ensuring that all lawyers are following the rules. He does his job to the best of his abilities until his new boss tries to shaft him in every way possible. But he can't quit because his wife can't hold a job, and if it weren't for Brad Gunther keeping him from doing anything productive at work he loves working for the LDO. So he's stuck between a rock and a hard place at work. Not to mention his love life gets complicated when he feels a spark of love for someone else when his marriage is falling apart.
And his former investigator, Foley, thinks he's onto something with a case that would implicate a lot of very powerful people. What secrets are they all hiding and if something truly did happen can Foley take them on without putting his life in danger?
While this novel jumps around and will skip weeks at a time, it leaves you clinging to every part of the mystery and investigation. I loved that the author teases you with more information throughout the book as more and more characters get involved in a scandal and you're never sure whether Dean and Foley are totally delusional and getting themselves into an unnecessary mess or if they're on the right path to ensure justice.
The end left me unsure of whether justice was actually served to the fullest and whether or not Dean's issues are fully resolved, but I really liked that. The big puzzle pieces are in place, but something is so real about not everything being perfect in the end.
