This is probably closer to 4.5 stars, but it's Michael McDowell, and he created characters like no other author, so I'm rounding it up instead of down. If not for the coincidences that peppered the story, I would give it the full five stars without explanation, but those coincidences are worth it to read this odd, violent, compelling little story.
