Frustratingly written in parts. A lot of inconsistencies early on. Almost put it down multiple times because I found it so irritating.
Heavy reliance on the "bad thing happening but from a child's perspective, so they don't fully understand" trope.
There's multiple times whenMiv is almost responsible for uncovering something but then it happens off-screen and its so frustrating! Like, she was SO close!
The last few chapters had me sobbing and that's why I think it's been made Waterstones' book of the month, because all you remember is the ending.
