This book ruled. I went in unspoiled though my partner informed me there is a very infamous scene in this book. Having finished it and not spoken with him yet, there are literally 4 scenes I think could have been what he was talking about, which really speaks to the quality of the book itself.

At its core, once you wipe off all the blood and guts, this story is a love letter to love and dedication itself. It's a little (very) twisted, and the Horrors are present and accounted for, but I could not get over how charming Muriel was. I was rooting for her every step of the way and clearly the creature felt the same way or this book wouldn't be half as long as it is.

I loved the ending. Fully and genuinely, I was expecting a much different one and I could not be more satisfied with the one we got.

Highly recommend for fans of sweet old ladies, the Scottish coast, righteous retribution, body horror, the mysteries that lurk in the deep sea, and eating the rich.
