Dolly Parton, Songteller by Dolly Parton
5.0
emotional funny inspiring reflective medium-paced

As a girl brought up in the South, Dolly Parton was someone whose name I was always aware of. I've never cared much for country music as a genre, so aside from her song Jolene, I knew little to nothing about her. I love the way each chapter is laid out with a brief introduction to what was going on in Dolly's life at the time with the rest of the chapter being told through her notable songs from the era and a blurb by Dolly explaining her inspiration and how she was feeling when she wrote each song. I highly recommend listening to the songs as you go if you're like me and might not be familiar with her music.

She is one of the most kind-hearted, bright, and hardworking people in the music industry- Taylor has nothing on her! With nearly 3,000 songs to her credit, many of them award-winning, I had no idea how prolific and gifted she is as an artist. After finishing this book I am coming away with my head full of earworms!

I love her personal stories which give deeper meaning and life to her songs. She has a special gift for using her music to explore a wide array of topics and life experiences which makes her music so relatable to so many. I was completely unaware of her acting career aside from a certain Disney show and I can't wait to check out some of her movies. (I know, I know, it's a travesty that I haven't seen Steel Magnolias- don't come for me. Lol)

Before reading this book I never understood why Dolly was so beloved, but I have come out the other side of this read as a convert. Her class for days and her heart of gold are much needed in this world and I hope she stays with us for many years to come. Dolly for President!
