The Ruba'iyat of Omar Khayyam by Omar Khayyám
3.0
Penguin Classics edition by avery’s translation, I must say, was an underwhelming read.
As someone who is familiar with the turkish translations I found this one too distant and lacked the spirit of it.
Although it is understandable the language difference isn’t hard to overcome, if I hadn’t read Khayyam before I’d think he is overrated. I will check FitzGerald translation as well. I had the constant urge to check other translations, compare with the turkish versions to compensate for the rhythm of the rubais.
