Bullet Train by Kōtarō Isaka
4.0

The beginning was quite painful to get through. Took me two weeks to read the first half the book. Reading just few pages was enough to put me to sleep. The last 35% was simply thrilling and I quickly devoured the last 30% in few hours.

Few assassinators were stuck in a train. The constant switching of power from one character to another created tension. The overall plot was strange and far-fetched which is quite the typical Japanese style. There were humors, satires, psychological games and philosophical discussion throughout which made "Bullet Train" not exactly a page-turner especially at the beginning. All the action started at about midway.

Do pay attention to the highlighted train number(s) under the heading of each chapter of the English edition (ISBN 9781419756337.) That helped to get the bearing of the characters' movement.

Bullet Train was a thrilling ride for sure!
