The Honey Witch
by Sydney J. Shields
sad
slow-paced
Strong character development:
No
This is another kinda wannabe cosy romantasy that really isn’t (too much grief, torture and death). It’s pretty slow-moving, and the last part is really frustrating it’s been SO obvious for SO long that Lottie’s an ash witch, and she basically tells Marigold she is one right before M triggers her phobia to drive her away instead of listening to her. Then Lottie gets tortured for a month as a result, but everything’s fine because soulmates? The villain is pretty 2D and Lottie is a bit colourless. I wanted to like it a lot more than I did. I don’t think it knows what it wants to be.
Graphic: Violence, Grief
Moderate: Torture
