Your Pucking Mom by Vee Taylor
3.75

Ledger was entering his final year playing professional ice hockey for the Ravens while Auburn, a teenage mom, had devoted her life to her son who just happened to be the Ravens star signing. She might’ve come with him to Chicago but the writing was on the wall, he needed her less and less. Both were at the crossroads of what came next in their lives. In a surprisingly angsty and emotional story, these two lonely people, both on the cusp of major changes in their lives, find their way to each other, and Ledger falls hard and fast for Auburn possibly for the first time in his life. But it was a case of one step forward, two steps back as the trauma Auburn had endured throughout her life not least of all from a narcissistic mother who frequently called her daughter a wh0re and often in public which had left Auburn believing that she wasn’t worthy of love and that was before the fireworks when her son found out about his captain seeing his mom.

I loved Auburn’s relationship with her son. The love they had for each other was obvious, but I felt he didn’t seem to have much respect for her and came across as juvenile, expecting her to give him his space but be there to tidy up his messes. Ledger was the first time in her life she found the courage to do something just for herself and I loved how she blossomed under his dominance. The overall story had a good flow to it even as it felt overly long in places and I felt myself skimming parts. I really just wanted Auburn to find the courage to stand up for herself and stop feeling ashamed for something that wasn’t her fault. I did enjoy the secondary characters and I’m looking forward to reading more from the Ravens.
