The Kings of Beacon by Mike Jakubowski
3.0
I thought it was interesting enough.
For one, I feel like the writing style is a bit too wordy and descriptive, and the earlier parts of the story happen a bit too fast. There’s also a lot of spelling errors and typos.
That being said, the book is executed pretty okay. The whole tone is very light and feel-good, even with the dark reveals at the end. I think the main character isn’t that fleshed out, and his rough patch with Grady was explained weirdly. However, I really like how the world is expanded upon a lot. Beacon feels a lot like a real place, and I like the dynamic cast of characters being placed in a lot of varying situations. It’s very holistic, in a way.
There are some pacing issues near the middle (why so many parties?) and the dialogue is dated for a book supposedly set in 2024. However, the ending is absolutely fantastic.
In general, this is a good first start, I hope to see more from you eventually
