Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls by Ann M. Martin

4.0

This was going to be solid 5-star read until the author threw it away with a stinker ending. I enjoyed the suspense of a phantom phone caller lurking in the town. I was even getting secondhand nervousness from the babysitters. The ending bombed because a few of the phone calls the girls received were from boys who liked them at school! I couldn't believe the ladies were flattered by the copycat phone calls. The original caller did this to rob unsuspecting victims. Could you believe what would happen if a preteen was involved involved in this situation.

The ultimate stinker was Kristy went to the dance with boy who was picking on her all year, including his phone calls. I was disgusted mostly to the complete ignorance of danger in favor of preteen puppy love. It didn't seem realistic and distracted from how good the book had been until that point. Yuck. I'm hanging up on this one!
