The Garden of Time
by J.G. Ballard
Seems like I’m not the only one here after hearing that this was the inspiration for this year‘s met gala (I frankly didn’t care too much about it - I just really enjoy the theme as it is) and while I’ve never heard of Ballard, I absolutely fell in love with this little short story.
It is social critique at its finest, a tale spun in a lace-like style of narration. Truly gorgeous, devastatingly so. You can hear the approaching troops, knowing what ending the couple will have to face at some point in time - time that doesn’t tick away but melts, slowly, inevitably.
