Brutal Vows by J.T. Geissinger
4.0
Update: I actually read #1 and re-read #2 and actually like both.
So, this is my comfort read. I love Quinn and Reyna's dynamic and I always come back to it. So, I have to amend my rating.
2.5 It's written better than the rest. The pairing makes the most sense. The banter between them is pretty funny but does become stale after a while because it's just her insulting him. The sexual tension and the sex scenes are mostly great. Except the anal scene without any lube and just going, literally, balls deep in one thrust. Da fuq?! That's NOT the way to go about doing that! That is not hot and sexy. That is unbearably painful and should be considered assault.
It starts getting really ridiculous 85% in, which isn't bad. Reyna has no experience running the mafia but yet she becomes the head of the five families. LMAO! Like, wtf?! She was beaten and tortured by her husband for 14 years. He was a full out psychopath and no one did anything. Family is everything, but not really. lol. Then she poisoned him. She did become a mean cook in that time. But none of that makes her leadership material, especially for the Mafia. LOL.
And another thing. The gratuitous killing. Spider's entire family, forty-two people, were systematically killed off by the Serbian Mafia because he had relations with one of their wives. lololol, What?! Like, you don't think that shit would have been obvious in Ireland, and drawn a shit ton of police and media attention? Forty-two members of the same family being murdered separately but within a short timeframe? Pleeeeeeeeeeease!!!! Someone help the writers of this genre inject some realism in their writing. If this had been the cartel? Sure, maaaaaaaybe. But, a bunch of white people being murdered?! In a Western country?! And that being the end of it?! lolol
