Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler

5.0

I really enjoyed this book, it was quite intense and I found it a touch unsettling as it was written/published in 1993 but set in our near future starting out in 2024. The landscape she sets her characters in is so eerily similar to what could literally be our future. It is what you would consider a “post-apocalyptic” novel, but I do feel some similarities to communities in our USA now, for example some abandon parts of Baltimore documented by one of my favorite YouTubers, Dan Bell remind me of some the towns and cities written about in the book. People living in abandon row houses and entire sections of the city shuttered up and teeming with homeless folks, drug and violence ridden. This is a 10 out of 10 do recommend reading especially if you like this genre!
