The book is divided into two books . The first book being more about sam , pippin , merry and frodos journy to the council place and the second being about the fellowship forming  and breaking . I realised tolkien is at his best when hes been a desciber . Vivid descriptions of the forest and landmass are a pillar in his writing and i really like those parts actually. The first few chapters are my favourite and bilbo baggins is simply the best i love him to bits . His entire bit at his birthday party is one of the best introductions. Its so vivid i can almost imagine i am there. Same with the forest and tom part. If you remove that man completely itll have 0 effects on the story but i loved that part. The forest made me feel anxious. When they reach bree and meet aragorn and they have 5 ponies i thought that was one of many examples of excellent forehsadowing. I loved the climax of book 1 with the horse and frodo. It was also vivid and i was reading every word twice. I reread a lot of parts befoee starting book 2 and i reread parts rn so i can be comprehensive. Book 2 i think i liked a littlw lesss because it was more fantasy and lore which we all know i am bad at . Thw council of elrond was like boring at some points to me but i liked the part where i got aragons back story and gandalfs take about saruman . The last 80 pages crammed too much stuff in my opinion . gandalfs fall into the abyss and their grief over it and the riings darkness making that b word character betray them was kind of the best part . Also i loved the balins tomb scene . things i like is how descriptive he is and how much conttrol hw has over the lore ans history. Also character relationships... i genuinely cant believe that man wrote such beautiful friendships and expressed grief in such beautiful ways. I think tolkien pretty much invented found family hahahaha and rarely do i get so invested in male friendships . Sam i feel like is gonna play an important part soon and he repeatdly keeps choosing frodo . My tiny brain tingled. The things i didnt like are info dumping .... like ill need to reread stuff 5 times and i still wont remember but its a small barrier i personally face and not me critising tolkien . I constantly just enjoyed the setting and grew attached to the characters . I just felt like the last 80 pages and the first part was very intwresting and in the middle it got boring
