The Deepest Well: Healing the Long-Term Effects of Childhood Adversity by Nadine Burke Harris

4.0

This is a great book and a fast read on some interesting science, though I completely understand why some people have this one star. The title is quite misleading and makes you think it's going to hold a lot of self-help practices and specific things to do to help someone heal from childhood adversity. It does touch on these things vaguely (therapy, meditation, exercise)--that isn't what this book is about. It's more about Harris' journey into discovering ACEs and the work she's done to have it be taken more seriously.

I think it does do its job partially for healing because you need to know something is wrong before you can work to make it better. I'm curious to see more data about ACEs and the treatment of them.
