A nice short tight little story.
The characterizations, specifically the main character, really make the story. TK works well with the length of a story and the pacing. I felt like things got cleaned up in the end really quickly and easily in a manner that wouldn't be great in a longer work, but for this one, it was just dandy. My main complaint is I felt like it was pretty easy to guess the direction of the story, though for me it allowed it to be a comfortably fun horror novel. Much like in a slasher where you know who lives and who dies. It's done in a manner that makes it cozy vs formulaic, but that line is going to be subjective.
I felt it was better constructed than Nettle and Bone and What Moves the Dead. TK remains a reliably good horror author is very approachable for any horror fan
