Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell

Turn away, he says to Death. Close your eyes. Just for a moment.

Like Shakespeare's Hamlet, this book is essentially an exploration of grief and the toll death takes on a person. I was very glad to see Anne/Agnes be portrayed positively after literal centuries of insanely misogynistic scholarship, but I'm not a huge fan of her being characterised as a druid. It it is cool that an Irish-British writer added some Irish mythology into Shakespeare's story, as he's so often used as the peak of English culture. However, I think her being supernatural (in an otherwise quite naturalistic book) takes away from the fact that the real Anne/Agnes was a pretty interesting and impressive woman in her own right.
