There Are Trans People Here by H. Melt

challenging emotional hopeful inspiring fast-paced

5.0

This was such an amazing book! I think it's my favorite book of LGBTQIA poetry. The poetry acknowledges the ways that queerphobia and transphobia shape our lives, but the book focuses on trans joy and hope for the future. The author envisions a world where trans people are safe and supported, and they do an incredible job of communicating that vision. Their afterword was incredibly interesting. They described the texts that inspired them to write this collection. It's really, really hard for me to pick one favorite poem, but I particularly liked Trans Temple, I Don't Want a Trans President, and Ode to TERFs. I truly loved so many of the poems that it was really hard to pick which ones to highlight! This collection of poetry truly brightened my day and helps me feel a bit more optimistic about the future of the trans community.
