Invisible Boy: A Memoir of Self-Discovery
by Harrison Mooney
A thought-provoking memoir from Harrison Mooney about growing up black in a white, ultra-Christian family and growing in to his own skin and story. I suspect that many people of colour will read this memoir and recognize their own experiences. Mooney's experience is one that I will never fully understand because of the privilege of being born white. I do hope that I will never deny his, or any other person's, experience and that I will have the grace to admit to my own failings when they occur and do better going forward. I expect many people of my background will find this a challenging read because it contradicts the white saviour image many like to wear and it forces us to look at the prejudices that Mooney and so many others constantly face at our hands.
