The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon

3.0

Who is looking for an easy, breezy summer read???

Samiah Brooks publicly confronts the man she’s been dating when she finds out he’s been dating not one, but TWO other women and the whole scene is captured on video and becomes a viral sensation. Not what she needed in her life. So she, along with new friends Taylor and London, decides to take a break from dating to focus on herself. For her that means her career and making the app she’s been dreaming of designing a reality. And then Daniel Collins gets hired by her company and starts making it very hard to stick to their pact.

There was a lot I really enjoyed about this book. The set up and instant friendship between Samiah, Taylor and London seemed authentic to me. And I loved that Samiah was a strong, driven Black woman working in a high-level position at a tech company. She was a character I was rooting for all the way. But I struggled a little with Daniel’s character and his relationship with Samiah. He was inconsistent and I felt like I needed more from their interactions to get fully invested in their love story. That being said, this was a light and easy read and I’ll definitely be reading Farrah Rochon’s next book!

A fun premise with a strong, Black female lead which just needed a little bit more (for my tastes) from her leading man.
