The Nice House on the Lake Vol. 1 by James Tynion IV
4.0
I was surprised at the sudden turn the graphic novel took. I expected a mystery with horror elements, and I got those things, but I was impressed at how the graphic novel was more than just being a mystery and horror. It was about people and how we never really know who a person is and what they're capable of. I think it's also about humanity's potential when all seems to be lost.
So the set up is classic. A couple of strangers meet up at a lake house at the request of a singular mutual friend that they all have a connection towards. What was supposed to be a fun, relaxing night turns into a long duration of something more frightening. That's all I'll say.
I was in a reading slump when it came to graphic novels. Too anxious and hesitant to try out another one, I forced myself to read this one because I had to return it to the library the next day if I didn't. I'm glad I didn't skip out. Thank god I didn't skip out because it was refreshing to read an edgy graphic novel for adults with twists and turns that never feel too over the top. The important thing was that I was engaged and I can't wait to keep reading the next volume.
