Icebreaker by Hannah Grace

3.0

After reading a couple of heavy literary fiction books, I decided I needed a breather from all the tragic and complex stories I had consumed. So, here I am with a cutesy romance that is pretty much smut-filled, mind you.

“Icebreaker” by Hannah Grace belongs to a genre that most contemporary women readers seem to love and consume (just check out Goodreads and the Bestseller list for proof) – whether for the feel-good factor or the smut, I don’t know. One thing I can say for sure is that this era of smutty books isn’t stopping anytime soon. For good measure, it’s entertaining and swoon-worthy, even though some books have disregarded the importance of a good plot, wrapping up their writing with a mighty ton of smut.

To be fair, I did enjoy the book, minus the relentless toxicity of one character (Uhm, someone named Aaron, perhaps) who simply had to exist so the book could have its basis for conflict. I love that Nate and Anastasia’s story took off from a not-so-uncommon enemies-to-lovers trope because who couldn’t resist this hackneyed formula, right?

The book has all the elements of a romance fiction: characters going through family issues and personal insecurities to self-doubt and finally overcoming their fears, leading to a happy-ever-after. Oh, and the unbelievably forgivable creation of romance couples who are very much sculpted from the likes of Greek gods and goddesses (pretty face, perfect bum, and amazing personalities). All things considered, this book will jolt your heart, making you wish you could have gone through your younger years having met such a near-perfect persona of a man to sweep you off your feet.
