The Companion by E.E. Ottoman
2.0

When I first saw this featured for Scribd’s pride month, I was excited to listen to something specifically with trans characters, but this isn’t really a story but in faint outline. There are brief flashes of insight into the characters, but they are terribly few. Mostly, this is a smut vehicle, which if that’s what you’re looking for, it’s great, but I wanted to know more about the inner worlds of these characters and their world. Honestly, this reads like something I would have received in a writer’s workshop with decent bones, but would provoke the conversation about “show don’t tell” that’s the basis of so many conversations about the differences in writing fiction versus writing good fiction.
