Pageboy by Elliot Page

medium-paced

4.0

I’m a big fan of Elliot Page since Umbrella Academy. I enjoyed this book; lots of content warnings. Very raw and touching.

I am grateful to Elliot for writing and sharing his story for queer and most especially trans representation.

Growing up around the same time in a small city myself, it’s so mind blowing the difference between now and 30 years ago. And yet how people could still experience homophobia described in the book.

I couldn’t have imagined the pressures an actor growing up on camera could face, and just the way that presenting as female Elliot was stuffed into an act too. We all deserve better; and trans people need more  acceptance and safety. This book was a gentle action towards that reality.

The writing was pretty good, and Elliot seems like a wonderful person to get to know.
